As the Principal in Charge at Michael Wall Engineering, Michael brings more than 35 years of electrical engineering experience as a principal engineer and project manager. Starting with his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from UC Irvine, Michael’s qualifications include professional registration in 29 states. His expertise as a professional engineer can be best reflected in the over 2 million square feet of Defense Projects he has completed, such as General Atomics. He determines the scope of work, schedule, and design issues for over 300 projects annually. Outside of the office, Michael has served as the chairperson of the ACE Mentor Program in San Diego, in addition to his affiliations with the Downtown Partnership and IES. He also served as a trustee and chaired the Building and Grounds Committee of La Jolla Country Day School for more than 8 years.
GUY CARPINO, P.E., RCDD, Principal
Guy Carpino has over 20 years of electrical engineering experience and is an expert in Power Systems, voice/data (Information Transport Systems, ITS), and solar photovoltaic/renewable energy systems design. Guy was educated at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, and received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Biomedical Engineering. He holds Professional Engineering registrations in California and Oregon. As well, Guy is a Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) which certifies him as a qualified designer for voice/data (ITS) systems. His many abilities include project management for large, critical projects, BIM project management, and team management responsibilities at Michael Wall Engineering. Guy has demonstrated his expertise on Defense projects totaling more than 3 million square feet as well as County of San Diego projects of over 1.5 million square feet. Additionally, Guy teaches the Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering for an IBEW Local 569 Electrician Project Management Course every semester.
BRIAN DAZEY, P.E., LEED A.P., Principal
Brian has more than 19 years of electrical engineering experience and is responsible for major project management and team management for Michael Wall Engineering. Heading up the Orange County office project team, Brian has experience on numerous building types from high-rise office buildings to airport terminals. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from San Diego State University and currently holds professional registrations in 6 states. Brian specializes in full service architectural/engineering projects, focusing on projects for commercial and Federal (Department of Defense) clients. His expertise in all areas of project management and vast understanding of the industry make him an asset to any project team.
SHAHAB SALEHI, P.E., LEED A.P. BD+C, Principal
Shahab leads our La Mesa office and has more than 10 years of experience working as an electrical engineer. He earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University. His experience includes military, higher education, hospitality, and commercial building. Shahab has extensive experience with design-build projects, and a vast knowledge of emergency power generation, UPS, lighting design, and short circuit coordination. He is a registered engineer in California and a LEED Accredited Professional. Shahab is skilled at sustainable design, and his portfolio includes work on LEED Platinum projects.
JUSTIN RAY A. DELOS REYES, P.E., Electrical Engineer
Justin has over 4 years of electrical engineering experience after graduating from California State University, Long Beach with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in Power. He holds a Professional Engineering Registration in California and is seeking to become a LEED Accredited Professional. Within Justin’s first year at ETAP, he received ETAP’s Thinking Power Award for the contribution and teamwork for the design, development, validation, sales, and support of the power system analysis software. Justin’s expertise in power system studies include, but are not limited to: Load Flow, Short-Circuit, Arc Flash, and Coordination. His drive, passion, and eagerness to learn has quickly made him a valued addition to the Orange County team.
JAMES COOLEY, LEED A.P. BD+C, Senior Project Engineer
James has over 32 years of professional engineering experience, including 20 years of U.S. Navy service where he achieved the rank of Electronics Technician Master Chief (SS). Ultimately, he served as a Nuclear Reactor Operator, specializing in Instrumentation and Control systems. James earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Science and Technology, Nuclear Engineering (BSAST) from Thomas Edison State College in Trenton, NJ. James is a LEED Accredited Professional and actively participates in sustainable project designs. His experience at Michael Wall Engineering includes numerous laboratory, healthcare, military, and industrial project designs. James enthusiastically travels to laboratory projects across the country and maintains clearance to facilitate his access to military bases. James has participated in six (6) LEED Platinum project designs.
RAY THOMPSON, Project Manager
Ray has over 18 years of experience as an electrical designer and project manager, including 12 years with Michael Wall Engineering. He has designed a variety of projects with engineering responsibility for lighting, power, and signal systems. With a major in Electrical Engineering from Grossmont College and a Certificate in REVIT MEP, his design background consists of power systems design for industrial, commercial, and educational facilities. With special expertise and experience in power systems and voice/data system designs, Ray’s project experience includes several large Corporate Headquarters projects, such as Sony Electronics North American Headquarters and the San Diego County Operations Center. Ray’s strengths include programming large, complex projects and implementing design details through the construction documents. At MWE, his responsibilities include BIM management and operations, engineering detailing, production of construction documents, and coordination of electrical design with all disciplines.
DIANE BORYS, LC, Associate IALD, LEED A.P., CEPE, EIT, Director of Lighting
Diane has over 7 years of professional lighting design experience. During this time, she has established a reputable attention to detail and passion for lighting design which combine to create well-coordinated projects that vibrantly mix forms and aesthetics with functionality. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering with an emphasis in Energy from the University of Kansas. From concept to construction, Diane excels at using architecture as an easel as she paints with light ensuring to integrate the art, science, and technology of lighting into every project. Creating lighting designs that are energy efficient, budget conscience, integrated, and creative, Diane aims to add value to every space. She is highly proficient in lighting calculations and visualization tools such as AGi32 3D rendering software, Revit, and EnergyPro. Her award-winning designs and expertise in LEED, sustainability, and Title 24 make her an asset to any project.
BRIAN HAHNLEN, LC, EIT , Senior Lighting Designer and Project Manager
Brian has over 15 years of award-winning lighting design and leadership experience. He’s taught lighting at the graduate level and is skilled in educating and collaborating with architectural teams and owners. Brian’s experience developing aesthetically appropriate, energy-efficient illumination systems span a variety of project types ranging from commercial, cultural, entertainment, theatrical, retail, academic, sport venue, and healthcare to luminare manufacturing and controls integration. He is an expert at daylight design as a tool for manipulating light to complement the architectural vision for any space. Brian has won several IIDA Awards, IES Awards and holds a patent for his work with lighting controls.
