MCAGCC Twentynine Palms - North Mainside Expansion P-127

Project Overview

Michael Wall Engineering produced the design/build electrical construction documents for the $7M  P-127 Substation Improvements and Infrastructure Upgrades as a part of the $102M North Mainside Expansion for Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) located at Twentynine Palms, CA.  

The project included design of the new 3-circuit 34.5kV Ocotillo Switching Station upgrade, a new 5MVA 34.5kV-12.47kV Primary Substation, a new base-wide SCADA system, and new overhead/underground power distribution. The design includes substantial electrical infrastructure upgrades including 34.5kV power, 12.47kV power, 34.5kV primary switchgear, SCADA-Mate switches, pole sag-and-tension calculations, protection and communication relay systems, short circuit and coordination study for 2000+ buses, and over 18 miles of overhead/underground Fiber Optic SCADA control loop using 24-strand Single Mode fiber controlling roughly 5300 points including every electrical Intelligent Electrical Device (IED) at 12 substations and 62 SCADA-Mate switches throughout the base.  Additionally, a new 100kW photovoltaic system was designed.
