Pratt & Whitney Aeropower Systems

Project Overview

Michael Wall Engineering has designed over 20 projects for Pratt & Whitney Power Systems (Formerly Hamilton Sundstrand Power Systems) at their Kearny Mesa facility including over 10MW of added electrical distribution for aviation auxiliary power unit (APU) research and development.  The Pratt & Whitney facility also manufactures and repairs APU systems for both commercial and military aircraft.  All work is DoD and FAA-certified and requires a highly reliable electrical distribution system capable of responding to any customer request.  Our design included a wide range of electrical systems including 12kV distribution, 5kV distribution, and distribution substations.  Specialized engineering designs were provided for high-temperature test cells, fuel farms, altitude and thermal chambers, compatibility chambers, tail cone mock-ups, manufacturing floors, and 400Hz systems.  Engineering consulting was provided for OSHA compliance, short circuit and coordination studies, disturbance analysis, and surge protection.
