UCSD Shiley-Ratner Eye Center

Project Overview

Michael Wall Engineering produced electrical construction documents for the $6.8 million, 3-story, 14,000SF expansion of the Shiley-Ratner Eye Center. This distinguished surgical center houses the Department of Ophthalmology faculty, staff and facilities to support clinical care, research, teaching and community outreach programs. The facility features three surgical suites, state-of-the-art laboratories, and clinical space that is powered through a critical branch healthcare facility power system with emergency power backup. The existing third floor surgery and recovery room space at the Shiley Eye Center was expanded by more than 50 percent and is OSHPD Level 3 certified.  Total clinical space added between the two facilities includes 21 eye exam/procedure rooms, with individual multi-level dimming controls and specialized eye exam room lighting. Electrical design for the expansion included 150kVA of back-up power coordinated with the existing critical power system.
