Michael Wall Engineering, Inc. provided electrical construction documents for the 163,000SF Price Center expansion (2005 American Architecture Award from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design; 2006 Honor Award from the San Diego Chapter of the American Institute of Architects). The renovated and expanded facilities include a new bookstore, food services, retail service, student organizations, social space, conference, meeting and event spaces, administration, and building support. Two 12kV primary circuits were brought to the building through a new 6-way SF6 gas switch which serves three (3) new substations totaling 4250kVA in capacity. SCADA metering is provided for all tenants, and at each substation. A new 1000kW/1250kVA diesel generator was designed and integrated into the existing SERF building generator yard. The standby power system serves three (3) automatic transfer switches: Life Safety, Legally Required, and Optional.
