Shiley Eye Center Expansion
La Jolla, California

Michael Wall Engineering, Inc. produced electrical construction documents for the $6.8 million, 2-story, 12,000SF expansion of the Shiley-Ratner Eye Center. The distinguished center is a complex of buildings on the UCSD East Campus Medical Center which houses the Department of Ophthalmology faculty, staff and programs, including clinical care, world-renowned research, teaching and community outreach programs. The facility features state-of-the-art laboratories, clinical, and surgical space for adults and children. This expansion project increases the existing clinical space by more than 50 percent and is designed to be LEED certified. The addition includes a new registration area, waiting room, office, clinic, and computer lab space over 2-stories of the existing Shiley Eye Center. Additions to the Ratner Children’s Eye Center include a single story office and clinic space expansion. Clinic spaces include a total of 21 eye exam and procedure rooms, with individual multi-level dimming controls and specialized eye exam room lighting.
